Concession Duties - 2009/2010
The calendar for concession stand operated at sporting events hosted by St. Matthew's will be posted HERE.
You will be able to sign up to work a specific shift by completing the concession sign-up form which will be sent home with your student in October. Volleyball season will soon be upon us and our concession season will be in full swing. We generally start the last weekend of October.
Shifts for the concession stand will be assigned on a "first received, first assigned" policy. If you sign up via e-mail, the receipt date and time will be established by the date and time of e-mails received. The concession stand calendar will be updated regularly, so you are encouraged to volunteer for open slots as they are available.
Frequently Asked Questions About Concession Duty
Who needs to volunteer for concession duty?
A parent/guardian of a St. Matthew athlete playing for any team in the ICCL program.
How many times must I serve concession duty?
A concession duty is required for each student participating in a sport. For example, if you have two students participating in sports then two concession duties will be required.
But my child plays football (or other outside sport). Do I still need to work concessions?
Yes, all athletic participation requires concession duty. The fact is, all athletes at St. Matthew benefit from profits generated by our concession operations and hosting of athletic events in our gym. These opportunities require the time and talent of all the families with athletes.
What can I expect at concession duty?
Shifts are staffed with usually two people working the actual concession window, and a third taking money at the door. For closing shifts clean-up is also involved.
What if my student plays a sport at a different time of the year?
This works out well for most parents. Many families fulfill their concession duties during their students' off- season, thereby having the freedom to attend all their student's games. Some families however, prefer to serve their duties during the season their student is playing. Many state that it is more convenient to work the same day their child is at gym participating in thier sport. If you prefer this option, we encourage you to check with your student's game schedule to make sure you have not committed to working concessions at St. Matt's but find you must be elsewhere with your student for their game.
What about my concession stand deposit?
The concession deposit is $50 per family, regardless of how many athletes or how many sports they play. When you have fulfilled your complete concession obligation (one shift for each athlete) the deposit will be refunded to you.
I had a really good time working concessions! Can I sign up again even though my obligation has been fulfilled?
You bet! We'd love to have you back!
