Under the choral direction of Emmanuel P. deLeon Jr., Doctoral of Musical Arts student at the University of Notre Dame Sacred Music, we will prepare weekly Entrance and Communion Antiphonal chant, learn new hymns and octavos and prepare choral selections for the Christmas season. At this time, we are limited to 10 participants. Please join us for vocal conditioning and social distancing on September 8. Call Mike at the Cathedral office to join or stop by the choir loft after Mass.
The ministry of the Cathedral Cantor is to bring the song of the assembled community to life, and to assist the people so that their song may be prayer. This is open to anyone of high school age and older with audition. One must be able to understand the basics of music and serve confidently in this leadership role. It is crucial responsibility of the cantor to be musically hospitable, to be personally present to the assembly, and to help them feel welcome and able to sing. An excellent way to grow into the cantor roll is to first become a “Psalmist,” This person proclaims in song the “Responsorial Psalm.” Call Mike at the Cathedral office for more information or to audition.
